Former Eagles Receive More National
Recognition
Four Former
Eagle Standouts have been mentioned as “Players to Watch” in their
respective conferences according to the most recent edition of Collegiate
Baseball. Steve Guerra (University of Oklahoma), Adam Moore (University of
Texas at Arlington), Wes Dorsett (University of Nevada at Reno) and Tim
Daigle (Nicholls State University) were named to the list after putting up
impressive numbers during their junior campaign.
Guerra, a
pitcher for the University of Oklahoma, finished the 2004 season
as a first team all-Texas Eastern Athletic Conference selection. During
his sophomore season at NTCC Guerra posted a 7-3 record with a 2.34 ERA.
Last season (2005) Steve made 15 starts for the Sooners, pitched 85 2/3
innings, collected 52 strikeouts, and turned in a record of 6-6. Steve
was named the Big 12 pitcher of the week, on March 29th, after
he pitched a complete game shut-out against #14 ranked Texas A & M.
Guerra has also been named to the 2006 Wallace Watch list. The Brooks
Wallace Award is presented annually to the national college baseball
player of the year.
Moore, a catcher for the University of Texas
at Arlington, was an integral
part
of NTCC’s 2003 conference championship team. Adam was a key component in
the success of the 2003 and 2004 seasons, earning first team all-Texas
Eastern Athletic Conference honors in during both seasons. Adam was
selected in the 2003 Major League June Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers
(31st Round), but chose to return to Northeast for his
sophomore season. During the 2004 season, Moore was honored as Collegiate
Baseball magazine’s national player of the week after going 7-for-8 with
five homers, 17 RBIs and six walks in a three-game span.
Dorsett, a pitcher for the University of
Nevada at Reno, was another key
contributor
to the 2003 conference championship team, posting 3 saves and an ERA of
2.89. Last season (2005) Wesley proved to be the Wolfpack’s most
consistent reliever, posting numbers which would rank him with the best
relievers in the country. Doresett finished the year leading Reno in
saves (5), was tied for first in team appearances (19), lead the team in
innings in relief (32), and opponent batting average (.237).
Daigle, a middle infielder for Nicholls
State, was a mainstay for the Eagles at
shortstop during the 2004 season. During the 2005 season, Daigle proved
himself to be a dependable shortstop, starting in all but one game, for
the Colonels. Besides anchoring down the middle of the infield, Tim
provided plenty of offense: second on the team for doubles (11), second on
the team for runs scored (35), and fourth highest batting average (.279)
for the Colonels.
