Northeast TX C.C. 7, Pratt College 6
MOUNT PLEASANT, TX -- The Eagles took advantage of three multiple run innings to defeat Pratt Community College, in the 7:00 game Friday evening. NTCC got on the board first, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom half of the opening frame. Kenny Price stroked a double to left center field to score Drew Pirtle and Aaron Murphree to put the Eagles on top. Pratt would answer in the top of the second to briefly capture the lead. Two hits, a pair of walks, and an Eagle miscue resulted in three Beaver runs; all of which were unearned. Northeast came back to life in the bottom of the third, reclaiming the lead for good. Aaron Murphree swatted a 1-0 pitch to a diving right fielder, resulting in a lead off triple. Ryan Saldivar picked up the RBI on a hard shot up the middle, but a diving shortstop, Brandon Hudson, would keep Saldivar off the base paths. Kenny Price got the Eagle offense back on track singling up the middle and then stealing second base on the next pitch. John Dao's two out RBI single, scored Price to put the Eagles back in the lead. Another big inning in the fourth gave the Eagles a four run cushion. Jesus Alvarez starting off the fourth drawing a walk. On a 1-1 pitch to Mitchell Haynes, Alvarez advanced ninety feet, swiping second base. Hayes singled on the next pitch to score the first of 3 runs. The Eagles poured it on with back to back RBI doubles from Pirtle and Murphree. The sizable lead would be short lived as PCC put up a three spot, two of which were unearned. The Beavers threatened in the sixth, but the Eagle closer, Brandon Wellborn was summoned from the pen. Wellborn surrendered and infield single to load the bases, but four pitches later the threat was ended with a strikeout to the Pratt catcher. Turner Brasher picked up the win for the Eagles providing some much needed relief over the course of 2 2/3 innings of work. Wellborn picked up his third save of the year. |
