(03-05-07) Mt Pleasant Texas- This
weekend the Northeast Texas Community College Baseball
Program hosted their second annual Spring Baseball
Tournament. Mt. Pleasant played host to seven
other teams this weekend and saw plenty of baseball
action. "We had a great turnout of support this
weekend" said Head Coach Chris Smith. "We had
great crowds, good weather, and great The home town team faired well this weekend as well as they were undefeated in their two games. On Friday night NTCC played host to Ranger College and was able to win behind the outstanding pitching performance of Freshman Blake Ford. Ford pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up two runs while punching out 6 Ranger hitters. In the seventh Blake turned the ball over to Sophomore reliever Matt Hinds who was able to close out the 7th and the 8th. Sophomore reliever Frank Weaver came in the ninth to close the door throwing a hitless inning striking out two. "We were very please with our pitching performance on Friday night. Our guys came in and did what they should do, pound the zone with strikes and throw quality pitches." said Coach Smith. The Eagle bats also showed well Friday night scratching out 15 hits and scoring nine runs. Seven of the Nine starting Eagles had hits while John Dao lead the team going 4-4 with three runs scored. Other players with multiple hits were Kyle Cheesebrough, Adam Resendez, Jeremy Travis (5 RBI), and Kevin Schlegel.
Eagle starter, Jeff DeLeon was able to pick up his second win of the year going 6 2/3 innings pitched giving up four runs and fanning 7 Aggie hitters. Sophomore Frank Weaver had his second appearance of the tournament, working 2 1/3 innings striking out 4 hitters. "Offensively we didn't play exceptionally well today." said Coach Smith. "John (Dao) and Adam (Resendez) were able square up a couple of balls and hit them out of the yard. Other than that we really didn't make adjustments well, but our pitchers did what they were supposed to do and kept us in the ball game." Offensively for the Eagles they were able to score seven runs on six hits. Sophomore Kyle Cheesebrough led the way with two hits. The Eagles play next on Tuesday against Mt. View |
