Eagles Win Last Seven of Nine

Mt Pleasant Texas- As the tournaments fast approach the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles have won six of their last eight games.  The Eagles hosted the Beavers of Pratt Community College where they were able to compete a four game sweep behind solid defense and pitching.  "We did a good job in the Pratt series of being able to complete the plays offensively, defensively, and on the mound." said Head Coach Chris Smith.  "The guys played hard and did what they needed to do to win the games."

On Tuesday NTCC played host to the nationally ranked Richland Thunder Ducks.  The number seven ranked Ducks jumped out to a four run lead in the first game in the first inning and the Eagles were able to answer back and more.  The Eagles were able to push across 11 runs to win 11-5.  In the night cap the Eagles once again gave up four runs in the first but were not able to overcome the deficit and dropped game two 13-6.

The next day NTCC welcomed, Mt. View, another Dallas County school for a double header on Eagle field.  Northeast played a very unimpressive game first game but was able to win 3-1.  "We didn't play well at all in the first game.  Our approach at the plate was bad, we didn't make adjustments and we didn't pitch it exceptionally well.  We will take the win but we were fortunate." said Coach Smith.  In the second game the Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead behind the hot bats.  Jeff DeLeon started for the Eagles and threw 5 dominant innings.  After a pitching change in the 6th things started to unravel for the Eagles as they gave up 2 runs, but were able to scratch out two runs in the bottom half.  In the top of the seventh inning the Eagles gave up 9 runs to give up the lead going into the final frame.  NTCC was able to mount a late inning rally but fell short as they left the bases loaded.  The Eagles lost 11-10.

Tuesday night NTCC added to their win total as they were able to beat the Coyotes from Weatherford College.  Weatherford jumped out to an early lead by scoring a run in the top of the second but the Eagles were able to answer in the bottom half on an RBI single from Josh Krummel.  In the bottom of the sixth NTCC bats got hot as they scored five runs and added one more in the seventh to pull away from Weatherford.  Scott Stephen, the Eagles starting pitcher, was able to pitch 7 solid innings giving up 5 hits and only one run.  Freshman, Blake Barber was able to come in and throw the final two frames.

The Eagles get back on the Diamond against Ranger College Friday night at 7pm.
